Lady Lake Roofers for Storm Damage

Lady Lake Roofers for Storm DamageAt Eustis Roofing, we’re your top-line Lady Lake, FL roofers and we understand that living in the sunshine state comes with many pros and few cons. Unfortunately, one of the main cons is Florida storms which we know all too well can come out of nowhere and wreak havoc on our homes, cars, and cities. When it comes to your roof, preparing for storms by repairing or replacing your roof is important but also knowing what to do if your roof becomes damaged from a storm is equally as important.

Storm & Hurricane Season

For hurricanes, on average there are 12 named storms in the Atlantic each year. September is typically the most active month. For this year, 2020, it’s been estimated that we’ll have around 24 named storms which is double the average. These numbers should not be taken lightly and making sure your roof and home are ready is important. Florida is also known for having intense squalls of storms on a typical summer afternoon, these storms can bring heavy rain, wind, and hail to areas. Preparing for these storms is also important, but if your roof isn’t able to endure these storms and damage occurs, we can come to your house in a timely manner to assess the damage and guide you through what needs to be done.

Florida’s 25% Rule

Defined as: Not more than 25 percent of the total roof area or roof section of any existing
building or structure shall be repaired, replaced or recovered in any 12 month period
unless the entire roofing system or roof section conforms to requirements of this code (Public Adjusters).

This means that unless your whole roof is up to code and 25% or less is damaged, your roof will have to be replaced. If your roof is to code and 25% of your roof needs to be repaired, only that section needs to be replaced or repaired and not the whole roof. Having an expert come out and evaluate the roofing damage is imperative to stay up to code.

Top 3 Reasons for Storm Damage

Wind

High winds can rip shingles right off your roof, causing exposure to areas that need protection. When singles and tile are no longer there to cover your roof foundation, there’s a higher chance of water damage. Preparing for storm season by having us look at your roof and replace or repair shingles where needed before the wind comes through is a precautionary service that we highly suggest. If a storm comes through and you look outside to see shingles sprinkled on your lawn, call your roofing company as soon as possible to have your roof damage evaluated.

Rain

Whether there’s an intense downpour or steady rain for hours, roof shingles can wear down over time from rain. When water gets underneath the shingles it can cause minor and major damage to the structure of the home as well as lead to rot and mold. If there are any signs of water damage to your home from the roof, it’s imperative that it’s evaluated quickly and repaired or replaced in a timely manner.

Hail

Although we don’t typically have snow in Florida, hail is sometimes common with storms. Hail can create significant damage to your roof, fence, screens, and vehicles. Hail damage for roofs may be harder to notice on your own and having a roofing company come out to assess the damage is important.
